Lavender Vanilla Pomegranate Sugar Scrub
I think the title of this blog is pretty self explanatory. I. LOVE. SUGAR. I'm obsessed with all things sugar. Sugar can be crafted into a towering sculpture, can create a candy that's hard enough to crack a tooth and fuse the jaw shut, and soft enough to be spun around a paper cone.
Honey is particularly my favorite source of sugar. I love the origin of honey and I try to protect those little guys at all cost (yes, that makes me the crazy woman who runs up screaming, "DON'T KILL THE BEE!!! THEY'RE ALL WE HAVE!!").
There are MANY different flavors of honey that you can choose from, but these are usually found in Farmer's or Flea markets and in produce stands on the side of the road. When I lived in South Florida, I frequented a large produce store called, Robert Is Here. Strange name, but AMAZING selection of produce.
They had so many choices of honey. My favorite was the Key Lime honey, STRAIGHT from the Florida Keys. They also have many exotic fruits and a side stand dedicated to serving a very large selection of milk shakes. Best yet, THEY SHIP!!! So, click on the link above and check them out!
I decided to experiment with a sugar scrub this weekend. I incorporated honey into the mix because of all the medicinal benefits. Honey is a wonderful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. It can help fight acne, stomachaches and a sore throat.

Packaged and Pretty!
These will be the first of many sugar scrubs to come. I'm overjoyed with the end result! I packaged them and gave them to two of my favorite ladies (thank you Christina and Kimmy for being my Guinea Pigs!!).
It is quite simple to make, and the aromatic combinations are endless. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Ingredients List:
1 C. Coconut oil
2 C. Demerara Sugar*
1/4 C. Honey
Essential oil (I used lavender and vanilla pomegranate oils)**
-- Mix the coconut oil, sugar and honey in a large mixing bowl. Add a few drops of whatever scent you'd like. The mixture should feel like Moon Sand, and look like this:

Demerara Sugar
*I used Demerara sugar. Because it is less processed than regular granulated sugar, it still maintains some of the molasses which gives it its caramel color. You don't have to use demerara sugar. Table sugar will do just fine! The purpose of the sugar is for exfoliation. If you would like a more gentle exfoliator (as demerara sugar has larger granules than table sugar) then you can opt for the regular granulated sugar. {On a second note: demerara sugar does smell slightly of sugar cane, and even with essential oils added into the mix, you will still have the hint of sweetened molasses. To get around this, use regular granulated sugar}
** You can buy essential oils at your local craft store. Just a few drops of these oils can pack a punch, so use sparingly. If you want to experiment with a combination, I recommend placing one drop of each oil onto a paper towel (you don't want to try them in your sugar scrub only to find the scent horrendous!). Working with aromatic oils can induce quite a headache if you're sensitive to smells. Keeping a container of coffee beans or coffee grounds on hand is essential. When sniffing the different oils for so long, our olfactory sense can become confused. Coffee beans clear your sinuses of the previous scents and allows you to differentiate between the numerous odors.
So, there you are!! Now...why don't you go have a tall glass of wine and soak in the bathtub with your new Scrub???

I loooove the way you packaged these! You are so creative! I think I'll try this, though it won't be as pretty:)
ReplyDeleteYours would probably be much better, I'm sure!! The trick is NOT to adhere your fingers to the jar! ;)
Deletewhere did you get your labels? ive been thinking of getting some for my canned and packaged goods.
ReplyDeleteActually dear, I bought all of the decor at Michael's Craft Store. The labels, ribbon and flowers came in a little package that I found i the scrap booking section. Then I just superglued it all together! You can go to www.zazzle.com to create your own labels. I definitely recommend them for business cards!
